I finally finished my first podcast episode which is now live on iTunes (please review it). In this first podcast episode I share my story on how I got started earning money online. I cover how I got started building an online business way back in the late 90′s while selling Pokemon cards on eBay all the way up to discussing some of the ways I make money today by using Amazon’s affiliate program, Google Adsense, creating and selling information products, buying and selling websites, and running a variety of different blogs and websites.

This first episode is just me and a mic, but in almost every future podcast episode I’ll be talking with other internet entrepreneurs who are killing it online in various markets. On the podcast my goal is to encourage you to build and improve your own online business through the lessons gleaned from these episodes. I had a lot of fun recording this session and am looking forward to doing many more in the future.

Items Discussed In This Episode:

eBay
Google Adsense
Amazon Associates
Selling Websites
Niche Profit Course
Information Products

  1. Fascinating stuff, Chris!

Nice intro and extremely inspiring talk on how you make money online, starting out.

Looking forward to more podcasts from you.

I’m a transcriptionist and looking for ways to make money online using my skills.

I think it’s not realistic for people to try and replicate successful bloggers and online entrepreneurs. They have to look at themselves and figure out what skills they have that they can offer to others online.

That’s my approach to making money online rather than trying to be the next Problogger or Copyblogger or Chris Guthrie!

    1. Hey Carey, I just emailed you via the email you used to comment here. That was something I was thinking about adding later but frankly I just got so burnt out on all the other steps it took to set this up that I didn’t do it this time. I do think I should get them transcribed. Will talk to you via email.

  2. Hey Chris, I enjoyed your podcast =)

I think building an online business is attractive to gamers because there’s so many tools to “keep score” like analytics and obviously amazon and adsense earnings.

    1. Hey Marty,

Glad you enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to future shows for sure. I have a couple shows already recorded with guests that I’ll be releasing that were more fun to do than just talk by myself hah hah, but I figured that’d be a good way to start the show off at least.

      Thanks!

  4. Chris I thought the podcast great, I’m not a big reader so the audio presentation is a bonus for me. Looking forward to more, you have a great product and this old dog wants to learn new tricks. Five stars in my book. As Hancock would say, “Good Job!”

  5. Hey Chris,

I thought the podcast was great and it is going to be good for all your readers. I really like the idea of podcasts because I can listen to them in the car, shower, or even while I get ready for bed at night.

You really had a lot to say when you were on the podcast with Pat Flynn and thought that one was way too short. There is so much you can cover with a podcast and I am glad you are doing this.

I can’t wait for your next podcast, Amazons affiliate program has always been my hardest thing to master and I am just starting to make regular sales so I hope your podcasts will really help me with building my Amazon business just like you have done here.

    1. Hey Adam,

Yah the future podcasts will be a little longer. I just didn’t want this one going over on time as I was doing my entire history and I could talk a lot about various failures and successes in the past but then it’d go forever.

Thanks for the feedback and if you’ve haven’t done so yet don’t forget to review the podcast on iTunes for me too :) the more reviews I get the more people should see the podcast in iTunes.

  6. Great stuff Chris!

Your delivery is very straightforward and to the point. I especially like the point you made about getting rid of clutter and focusing on building the business. I’m still struggling to stay focused. Hopefully these podcasts will keep me moving in the right direction. I’m looking forward to more podcastings in the future.

Nice to hear from you again and hope you’re doing well. Yes staying focused is a tough thing for me to do at times. I’m always thinking of new projects to work on and it can slow me down quite a bit :D

  8. Chris,

Congrats on the new podcast. Looking forward to hearing more as well as the interviews. Are you going to have a somewhat consistent release schedule? What frequency?

    1. Hey Jason,

My plan is to do around 2 per month. It’s really dependent on just making sure I have stuff lined up and I’m not too busy working on the stuff that pays more of my bills. I’m primarily just doing the podcast for fun and because I get tired of sitting around in an office all day by myself hah hah so it’s just as much for me as it is for my listeners.

I think if I did anything more than 2 per month that it’d be too distracting to my core business. Then again, perhaps people would prefer I do more – we shall see.

      1. For me, more is always better. I devour this stuff in 45 min each way commute. But if it means in 4 months, you’re burnt out or have run out of material then most definitely space it out. I think about every two weeks is good.

        Reply
        1. I am confident I can do every two weeks or faster. I already have two podcasts recorded that I’m waiting to publish.

  10. I got started on eBay as well. I had 4 “niches” there where I totally new what I could get for certain things and I constantly looked for underpriced auctions that I could turn a profit on. I also was addicted to garage sales every weekend and selling my finds on Ebay.

Those were fun times with LOTS of trips to the post office. But I make tons more doing IM and I haven’t sold anything on eBay for about 3 years. I even still have stuff I collected that I could sell but I am too lazy to put them up.

    1. Hey Jack,

Yah I feel like a lot of people got started on eBay lol. I had a price list in my head for what every single NES game would sell for and I’d look for lots to buy and quickly calculate up the totals based on what I could piece them out for. Garage sales is still a good way to find stuff to sell as well particularly if you know a lot about prices on a wide range of things.

Yah I remember the post office people always giving me a hard time when I’d come in with 50 plus envelopes.

Side note: Any chance you’ll ever reveal your identity to us all? :D

  11. that was a really interesting podcast. I really like how you didn’t hide your failures or where it didn’t quite work out for you, those are the things where people can learn from! great to hear your successes too! :-)

  14. This is David. Hello to all. As I am new to the internet and blogging in particular,I have a lot to sort out and to learn. Thankfully, bloggers are some of the classiest and most informative people anywhere. I need all of the information I can get and this post helps a whole lot. Thank You for posting this.

  15. Congratulations on the podcast, Chris! I have it bookmarked to listen to later today.

Your sage advice is what’s helped me put my first membership site/online info product together – so I know there’s going to be some great and useful information for me to absorb here…

  16. Excellent podcast, Chris! I will be leaving some feedback on iTunes shortly, but I just wanted to comment and tell you how great your first show was. I really enjoy hearing about people’s stories… especially those of humble beginnings.

By the way, since this is my first comment on your blog, let me just say that found you first through the Warrior Forum. After that, I heard your interview on Pat’s Smart Passive Income podcast. Then, I looked up your blog.

Although I have already had my own success with Amazon, I am tempted to purchase your course to see if I can glean some nuggets of wisdom from your techniques… maybe I can ratchet my sites up a notch. Do you still offer the Azon theme with purchase, or has that offer expired?

    Reply
    1. Hey Brad,

Thanks for the comment and I’m glad you listened to the podcast and stopped by my blog. Yes the Azon Theme is currently free. I’m looking at potentially doing a second version of Niche Profit Course and expanding out some areas for people that wanted more info and when I do that I may remove the theme as a free bonus.
